Plan Ahead for the Holiday Weekend

Just a friendly reminder that we will be closed on Memorial Day. So if you need a spare tube or Powerbar for a holiday ride, make sure you stop in Saturday, 10am - 6pm or Sunday, 11am - 4pm.

It's Wednesday, You Know What That Means...

The group ride is on for tonight. Meet at the shop at 6 for the usuall.

I haven't posted anything for while, sorry! So let's see, what's new? I finally made the switch to no gears and big wheels. Yep, I'm 29 and single again. Well, actually I'm 30 something and almost married, but that's another conversation. Gotta say I really like not having gears. It makes you look at the trail completely different. And the big wheels, although slightly harder to handle in tight tight corners they roll over bumps really well. I think I'm converted!

Sam is, how should a put this, THE MAN. It's ride your bike to work month and he did just that. 62 mile commute one way from Lincoln yesterday. Stayed in town last night and rode home today. Oh, did I mention it was on a fixed gear singlespeed too! Maybe we can talk Lori into riding BRAN with one gear!

Not much new gear to talk about of late. Just the same good ole stuff as always.

If you wanna ride your mountain bike for 12 hours this weekend, head on down to Branched Oak Lake outside Lincoln and ride away. Sam, myself and a handful of other Trek/Highgear staff will be hangin' out.

So come on out or stop in, we'll talk about bikes, it'll be fun...

Der Kaiser Speaks

Jan Ullrich fired a shot yesterday that was heard loud and clear throughout the pro peloton. This years Tour de France will be more than the Ivan Basso show!

Ullrich screamed to victory in the TT stage of the Giro, beating Tour rival Basso by 20+ seconds.

My money may be on Jan this year in the absence of Mr. Armstrong. Folks forget that Ullrich is still 3 years younger than Armstrong, winning his first Tour at the tender age of 24!

Note to Ladies

Recently we lost our hard drive which contained our Ladie's contact list. We have a hard copy of the list from mid March, however, if you've given us your e-mail address within the last couple months, we have no way to contact you. We frequently send out notices of rides, local and store events and would love to keep you informed. Please send your e-mail address to ladies@trekomaha.com and notify any firends who may not check the blog. Thank you very much!!

Paolo Closes In

Discovery Channel / Trek racer Paolo Savoldelli is two seconds closer to taking back the lead at the Giro d'Italia. Paolo finished 2nd in yesterdays stage, the longest of the race. Sergei Gonchar is currently leading with Ivan Basso in third. Many journalists think the race will be a dual between Basso and Savoldelli, it looks like the race will not disappoint! Stay tuned...

Meet the Champ!

24 hour National Champion Cameron Chambers will be at shop this Sunday signing autographs and hanging out. Cameron races for the Subaru/Gary Fisher Team and will be racing on Saturday at the Battle Royale Marathon at Platte River State Park. The event is a four hour endurance race. Sport and Expert riders must race solo but beginners are encouraged to team up with friends or you too can ride solo. Cameron just might have one of Fishers new 29'r full suspension rides along with him as well.

Cameron will be at the shop between 12:00-1:00pm, so come in and get your free signed poster.

Service Manager Sam is Cameron's team mechanic, so if you have any questions for Cam or Sam, this is the perfect oppurtunity to ask the pro's.

Where's Lance?

7 time Tour de France Champion Lance Armstrong visited the Discovery team today at the Giro d'Italia. Team rider Paola Savoldelli won the opening time trial in Belgium but lost the lead yesterday. He now wears the blue jersey. Savoldelli won last years Giro d'Italia and is again a favorite for this years event. We'll try and keep you posted on all the latest developments as the riders traverse their way across Italy.

Nice Rimz!

Bontrager is expanding the Aeolus wheel line for 2007. Check out all the info at Cycling News.

New Offerings from Bontrager

So you say you want some OCLV Boron carbon but the $10,000 SSLx Madone is a bit too rich for your blood? Fear not, the first full carbon crank is in the works at Bontrager. These Boron Carbon pedal mounts use Race Faces X-Type BB and Stronglight chainrings. Preliminary weight on the 172.5 cranks is a scant 700grams. Sign me up!

Not Sure About 29'rs?

Dan found some more pics of Trek's new 69'r Mountain bike being ridden by R&D tester Travis Brown. The front wheel is 29" and the rear is 26". The idea is that the bike will climb over obstacles like a 29'r but corner and accelerate like a 26'r.

Cool pic of the prototype sliding dropouts

Here's the production photos

The finished product!
